During this interview I told host Fiona Phillips how writing a diary helped me cope with my breast cancer diagnosis and double mastectomy. My book, Rise, is based on my journals.
I said: “I never intended for me to read them [the diaries], let alone anyone else. And they are very raw, because that is what it’s like when you’re going though something.
“It’s hard to know what to do with all this stuff that’s ricocheting around your head.
“It’s good to get it out on paper. I learned later that there is research that says if you write – 15 minutes it can be, over three days, as little as that – it helps with the emotional processing of really, really difficult things.”
